Asia Style is a restaurant specialising in traditional Malay street food. This essay connects extracts from an interview with the restaurant’s owner to the personal history of one of Asia Style’s patrons. The owner’s discusses her migration from Malaysia to Glasgow, the history of the restaurant and the culture of Malay cuisine while her patron reflects on the very personal reasons for her absence from the restaurant.

Why I can’t eat at Asia Style was published in English with a traditional Chinese translation by Justin Fung. Edited by Louise Shelley and Francis McKee.
